FAQs – physiotherapy
.
How long is a session?
All sessions are booked for one hour. This allows time for arrival, discussion regarding progress, getting ready, reassessment, treatment, getting dressed, rebooking and payment.
.
Can I do half sessions?
No, although the “hands-on” part of the treatment may not last a whole hour, you will often need to be shown or review your exercise program. For many patients this is the key to their success so it can’t be cut from the session.
.
What do I need to bring?
It is not essential to bring anything however if you feel more comfortable you can bring a pair of shorts. You may also wish to bring any x-ray or scan reports or films that you may have. It is also often useful to know the names of any medications that you are taking.
.
What is involved in Physio?
All physiotherapy sessions start with a brief interview about the problem and any relevant medical history. You will be asked questions about the problem, when it started, any triggering factors or things that seem to make it better. Questions about work and other activities will also be asked to get a picture about what you need to be able to do day to day. Following the interview you will need to undress to your underwear so that the problem area can be seen and treated. You are welcome to bring shorts or a loose vest if you prefer.
The physiotherapist will then ask you to perform some movement tests so that the effects of the problem can be analysed. The problem area will be examined thoroughly and put through some specific test procedures. You will be informed of findings as they arise. Following assessment, you will be treated accordingly with your consent. Treatment may consist of massage, manipulative/osteopathic techniques, acupuncture, exercises and advice.
.
How many sessions will I need?
Prior to assessment this is impossible to say however this will be discussed at the end of the first session to give you an idea. Everyone responds differently to treatment but you will be told what the problem is, the appropriate course of treatment and how many sessions you should expect to need.
.
Can I come for physio if I’m pregnant?
Yes, we treat many pregnancy related problems but please inform the Physiotherapist prior to treatment so that this is taken into account.
.
How do I know if physio is the right therapy for me?
For general enquiries feel free to call beforehand. During the first session you will be informed of the findings and what treatment is deemed necessary. If it looks like you would do better with another type of therapy or medical opinion you will be told and put in touch with an appropriate therapist/expert in their field. Fisioplus Pilates has a wide network of trusted medical/therapy professionals to whom we refer patients.
.
Do I need to be referred?
Referrals are not necessary – you can attend treatment without a referral. Physiotherapists are primary care practitioners (ie. we are trained and certified to determine your pathway for better health).
