What is the difference between Fisioplus Pilates courses and traditional pilates courses?
Fisioplus Pilates (FPP) courses are based around the latest scientific research in the field of stability and muscle imbalance. They are designed by physiotherapists, clinical specialists in back pain. Courses are designed around a very useful and easily applicable assessment tool consisting of internationally validated tests.
The focus for Fisioplus courses is learning a thorough evaluation so that you can apply modified appropriate Pilates exercises to PATIENTS. FPP courses teach which exercise to use for which problems and WHY. There is a high clinical reasoning content on all FPP courses. Traditional Pilates courses tend to stick with teaching a specific Pilates exercise repertoire which often require a higher level client group.
.
What qualifications will I get?
You will be a Fisioplus Pilates trained Physiotherapist (providing you are a fully qualified physiotherapist prior to starting FPP courses) or a Fisioplus trained Clinical Pilates Instructor (if you already have a Pilates qualification) or Personal Trainer.
.
What does this qualification allow me to do?
It allows you to apply clinically based Pilates exercises to your practice. Please note that if you are already qualified to give Pilates classes then you can give Clinical Pilates classes with this qualification. If not you will need to take a class instructor course.
.
Is the course accredited?
Currently two university Physiotherapy colleges are processing the courses for accreditation.
.
Who can attend a course?
There are three types of Fisioplus Pilates courses. One set is for Physiotherapists and Osteopaths and the other two are for already qualified Pilates professionals and Personal Trainers.
.
Do I have to commit to all modules in the beginning?
No but you have to complete modules one and two for your certificate. Other modules are not compulsory but provide ongoing CPD. Payment is made prior to each module.
.
Is there an exam?
Currently no but we are waiting to hear from the accrediting colleges to determine if an exam needs to be included. See next question for certificating criteria.
.
What do I have to do to be recognised by FPP and get my certificate?
Between module one and two you must submit two clinical case studies covering a patient over a six week period demonstrating the use of Fisioplus Pilates assessment and treatment exercises. You also need to complete 30 hours of documented clinical practice with appropriate patients in your place of work.
